Slate treatment Description

I have a very simple question--I have looked at the
answers here, but they are confusing.  I have a new
hearthStone (http://g603.net) which is a single piece of honed black
slate (I think from Pennsylvania.)  Should I treat
this with mineral oil or some other slate oil product?
 I don't think it would make much sense to put on a
sealer since it is going to be subject to heat.
Advice?
